Sacramento's Big Day of Giving was a succesful event. It was a recent one day event to benefit local charities in the area. It brought in $13,265,338 to 688 local charities from 66,097 donors in one day. It was a very big day for Sacramento and many of the organizations that try to improve our Sacramento region. Organizations, like the Yolo Food Bank, the Sacramento Food Bank, the Shriner's Children's Hospital, the Sacramento Children's Home, Sacramento Loaves and Fishes, The Sacramento SPCA and so many more were the beneficiaries.
I have two local charities that are near and dear to my heart, the Children's Receiving home of Sacramento and Runnin for Rhett. Each will receive a donation from our family.
Twenty seven years ago, I walked into the Receiving Home to meet my first son. I entered a room filled with the cutest children ever, but one had this special smile, walked right over to me and hugged my leg. It was Matthew. It was providence.
About a year later, my wife and I went to meet our second son. All the kids were playing together, but one young man was climbing up a book case. Yes, that was our Joseph and yes, he does love adventure. Again, it was providence.
The Big Day of Giving helped The Children's Recieving Home bring in $85,210.
If you have followed my blog over the years, you will know that Runnin for Rhett has a special place in my heart and I train with them. It has been a wonderful experience. They have helped me get to a better place in life and they do so much to help improve our community. Runnin for Rhett trains thousands of children to run or run/walk a 5k twice a year. For many, it is their first race experience. It is really fun to see them cross the finish line and get their metals.
Runnin for Rhett also gives about 1,000 pairs of running shoes to those that need them each year. The proceeds from the Big Day of Giving all go to funding the shoe give away. A gift of $35 dollars buys one pair of shoes.
The Big Day of Giving helped Runnin for Rhett earn $38,500 in one day, enough to provide 1,100 shoes to kids that need them.
